What Will I Learn?


Through a range of discussions and exercises, students will learn to look at journalism as a viable career option, developing an analytical approach to understanding the foundations of this craft. The course will:

  • Offer a comprehensive insight into the industry.
  • Provide practical resources and techniques needed to develop writing and interviewing skills.
  • Learn about news, feature and specialist writing and how to avoid legal pitfalls.
  • Get to grips with the online revolution i.e. blogging and digital media.
  • Understand how to market yourself as a journalist and get the story you’re after.

Lawrence Lartey – Former Editor of Touch Magazine, has written for The Guardian Newspaper, Music Week, The Daily Mirror, The London paper, The Arts Council, Princes Trust and MOBO Awards. Produced documentaries for BBC Radio 1 and presented for ITV, Channel 4 and BBC 2.


Tutor

Matilda Egere-Cooper – contributes to The Independent, Orange.co.uk and ITN Online. Her past work has appeared in Dazed & Confused, i-D magazine, New Nation, The Mirror, The Voice, Touch and Blues & Soul magazine and she has also worked in television and radio at the BBC.
